Project description

My PhD project focuses on developing advanced modelling tools to predict the process-induced morphology and mechanical behaviour of composite materials reinforced with high-volume fractions of non-fully oriented recycled chopped fibres. These materials exhibit complex characteristics, including fibre orientation variability, a wide distribution of fibre lengths, and a partially cured matrix with limited flow due to the high fibre content. The research integrates high-fidelity, physics-based constitutive modelling with data-driven approaches to capture the inherent variability introduced by recycling. By accurately representing the behaviour of these heterogeneous systems during critical processing stages such as tension, compaction, and forming, the project aims to enable the reliable and efficient design of sustainable composite materials.
